Indian Captain Virat Kohli has officially announced that he will be stepping down from India’s T20I captaincy after the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup that is scheduled to be held in October in UAE.
A couple of days back, rumours had it that Virat Kohli will be stepping down from Indian captaincy in limited overs’ cricket but later this news was claimed to be fake by the sources. But today, at around 17:53 p.m., Virat Kohli posted an official statement of stepping down from captaincy in T20 cricket on all of his social media handles. The second para of thw statement says, “Understanding workload is a very important thing and considering my immense workload over the past 8-9 years playing all three format and captaining for last 5-6 years, I think I need to give myself space to be fully ready to lead the Indian team in Test and ODI cricket. I have given everything to the team during my time as the T20 Captain and I will continue to do so for the T20 team as a batsman moving forward.”
He has also said in the statement that he already had a talk with the people who are close to him, Rohit Sharma, Mr. Jay Shah, Mr. Sourav Ganguly and India’s Head Coach Ravi Shastri, who have been an essential part of the leadership group before taking this major decision. Virat Kohli had been captaining the Indian team in T20I cricket since 2017.
