Although being dominant for the majority of the game Argentina could only grind out a draw against a disciplined Paraguay team.
La Albicelestes lined up with a 3 man defence with the 2 wide midfielders De Paul and Gonzalez functioning as full backs.

During attack the 2 wing backs joined in while defensive midfielder Leandro Paredes dropped into the back line. Paraguay went with their familiar 4-3-3 shape and their tactic was to catch out Argentina on the counter. This tactic payed off as in the 20th minute star player Miguel Almiron was stopped illegally in the penalty box after a storming run and as a result a penalty was awarded which San Lorenzo forward Angel Romero dispatched with ease.

After that the men in blue dealt a serious blow when starlet Ezequiel Palacios had to go off injured after a challenge from behind. On came Giovani Lo Celso who provided the assist for left wing back Nicolas Gonzalez to head in the equalizer in the 41st minute from a corner.

Argentina came out all guns blazing and they thought they were ahead when Lionel Messi scored in the 58th minute but it was cancelled out as VAR spotted a foul in the build-up. Argentina continued to dominate throughout the game but were unable to break through the stubborn Paraguayan back line.
Argentina now sit top of the table with 7 points from 3 games but should drop down to 2nd place unless Brazil lose to Venezuela tomorrow. Argentina next play Peru on wednesday which promises to be another tricky test for the Albicelestes.
