It was action time in Chennai as auctioneer Hugh Edmeades banged the hammer for IPL Auction 2021.
Steve Smith was the talk of the town going into the 14th edition of the IPL Auction . With a base price of 2 crores , it was expected that teams would go after the modern day great from Australia considering the strength he provides to a batting unit.
Royal Challengers Bangalore opened the bid. Shortly, the Delhi Capitals joined the bidding and the Australian Star batsman was soled to the Delhi Capitals at Rs 2.2 Crores.
The Former Rajasthan royals captain was released ahead of the IPL Auction 2021. Steve Smith had a decent season last time around with the Royals. But the team finished at the last position of the points table and the team management decided to release the star batsman.
It will be interesting as The Delhi capitals will now have an even more stronger batting unit with the addition of Steve Smith as he will be in action with the likes of Shreyas Iyyer , Rishabh Pant , Marcus Stoinis .
