Bonners’s unbeaten 74 anchors Windies to 223/5 on Day 1 of the 2nd Test.

N.Bonner played a crucial knock of 74* to take Windies to a respectable total on Day 1. Along with him , the other overnight batsman is keeper batsman da Silva who is on 22.

Windies player flicks a shot

After winning the toss , Windies opted to bat first in the 2nd test which is played at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium , Dhaka. Both the openers provided a steady start by a 66-run important stand. Braithwaite scored 47 and Campbell made 36 who took on the bowlers and wasn’t hesitant to clear the boundary and hit the big shorts. But the visitors lost wickets after this due to well organised bowling from the home team . Campbell was dismissed by T.Islam as he tried to sweep.

Soon after Braithwaite too fell apart trying to play a cut shot . This was the Gate that the Bangladeshi bowlers needed as they reorganized themselves and tried to get into the West Indian middle order. Double centurion of the last match, Mayers departed early today as he edged one to S.Sarkar off Abu Jayed’s bowling . Jayed bowled consistantly on good areas and continously asked questions to the batsmen. Wickets started to fall at regular intervals and the Windies found themselves at 122-4 at one stage N.Bonner and J.Blackwood then got in together and notched up a 62- run partnership for the 5th wicket which was very crucial at that stage.

Blackwood played a composed innings of 28 before he was sent back in the final session by T.Islam who took a catch off his own bowling . But N.Bonner held one end tightly as he brought up his back-to-back 50 in the series . He is currently batting on an unbeaten 74 (173) with six boundaries and was then well supported by da Silva who looked in control while playing spin. Earlier in the day Windies made one change to their team as A.Joseph replaced Kemar Roach . Whereas Bangladesh made 3 changes as Soumya Sarkar , Abu Jayed and Mithun replaced Shadman , Mustafizur and Shakib respectively. Bangladesh will be missing the service of Shakib who was dropped from the 2nd test due to an injury.

With the game evenly poised on Day 1, some exciting days of test cricket awaits ahead . BangladeshI bowlers will be looking to wrap up the Windies innings as soon as possible and then later surpass the Windies score with a healthy lead . Whereas, on the other hand , West Indies would want N.Bonner and da Silva to continue this partnership and get a good 1st innings score on the board as a solid 1st innings total would be an added aadvantage on this track.
