World’s second most popular sport has an estimate global following of 2.5 billion, yet has struggle to attract an attention in USA.
In past there have been various attempts to hold a T20 cricket in the US such as Pro cricket league (2004) and American Premiere League ( APL) like various cricket league such as IPL but both failed to achieve the goal.
In November 2018, USA cricket announced that they were looking partners to establish a domestic T20 league in country to make cricket famous in the country. USA cricket board planned to launch MLC in 2021.
With Major League Cricket, a tournament conceptualized by American Cricket Enterprises who have acquired 20 leading business executives and successful tech personality. Indian super star Shah Rukh Khan likely to enroll his team knight Riders but the biggest obstacle on the road was about matching time-zones in Asia. A part of the plan, they want to attract more and more Indian domestic and former cricketers to be a part of the tournament which will give them more popularity.
As per latest report , MLC will be held in the first season with six teams. Atlanta, Chicago , Los Angeles, New York, New Jersey and San Francisco will be the represented city of the teams.
MLC committee hope that competition can be repeat to watch the success rate of 1st season. USA is targeting full membership of ICC by 2030. The government has already spent $10 million to renovate the Air Hoges Stadium with 6000 seats facility. MLC already signed a broadcasting contract with Willow TV. It airs overseas cricket in all over the Asian Country. Hope Major Cricket League will succeed to promote the Cricket in USA and help to increase the number of cricket playing nations.
