After parting company with their Club’s record goal scorer Frank Lampard, Chelsea have handed the hot seat at the Stamford Bridge to German tactician Thomas Tuchel on a 18 month deal.
Thomas Tuchel joins the Blues of England following a two-and-a-half year spell with the defending champions of France Paris Saint Germain, which came to an end last month. The 47 year old became the first manager to drive PSG till the Champions League final last season.
The German has been brought in to get the best out of Chelsea‘s new German imports Timo Werner and Kai Havertz who have failed to live up to their hefty price tag. He will also be reunited with Brazilian international Thiago Silva and US International Christian Pulisic who he coached during his time with PSG and Borussia Dortmund respectively.
‘I would like to thank Chelsea FC for their confidence in me and my staff. We all have the greatest respect for Frank Lampard’s work and the legacy he created at Chelsea. At the same time, I cannot wait to meet my new team and compete in the most exciting league in football. I am grateful to now be part of the Chelsea family – it feels amazing!’ said Tuchel after signing a 18 month deal.
‘It is never easy to change Head Coach in the middle of the season but we are very happy to secure one of Europe’s best coaches in Thomas Tuchel. There is still much to play for and much to achieve, this season and beyond. We welcome Thomas to the Club.’ said Marina Granovskaia, director Chelsea Football Club.
Chelsea play their first match under Tuchel’s guidance on Wednesday as they host a 14th placed Wolves at the Stamford Bridge.
