Despite being out of form in the previous edition, Glenn Maxwell was seen as a hot favourite entering into this year’s IPL auction at a base price of 2crore . He was sold to the Royal Challengers Bangalore at a massive Rs 14.25 crores.
The flamboyant Australian all rounder got the opening bid from Kolkata Knight Riders and was soon joined by Royal Challengers Bangalore. As the bid reached to Rs 4.4 Crores to RCB, Kolkata Knight Riders pulled out . Soon after , Chennai Super Kings are into the mix. CSK went all guns blazing after Maxwell as they desperately needed a finisher and an off spinner considering CSK is looking to make a team for the future . But , RCB had no intentions to back out. The battle continued as the bid went up to the Rs 10 crore mark with both teams not willing to back down . The bid then went up to Rs 11.75 crore with Royal Challengers Bangalore leading the see-saw race.
Chennai Super Kings took up the bid to Rs 13 Crores . Soon the bid was increased to Rs 14 crore by CSK but considering they entered the auction with Rs 19 crores in their kitty , the Chennai Super Kings backed out from a 14 minute long bidding battle.
Glenn Maxwell was soled to the Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping Rs 14.25 crores and will be seen sharing the field with Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers and will be a superb addition to RCB considering the value Glenn Maxwell brings to the table with his all round abilities.
