It was a tale of class and composure as India clinch a historic win over the Aussies in the Boxing Day Test after they suffered a crushing defeat in the first test at Adelaide.
After Australia were bowled out for 195 in the first innings, India came out to bat with Shubman Gill playing a crucial 45 runs knock, Rishab Pant’s little of cameo of 29 runs from 40 balls and captain Rahane’s 112 runs knock which became a fairytale innings just like Sunil Gavaskar’s 96 against Pakistan and Sachin Tendulkar’s 142 against Australia in the hearts of all Indian fans.
India put up a pretty good score of 326 on the board in their first innings. After that, the Aussies came out to bat and were bowled out for 200 runs in the second innings with Mohammed Siraj bagging three wickets while Ravindra Jadeja and Ravi Ashwin claimed two wickets each alongside Jasprit Bumrah taking two wickets while Umesh Yadav took just one.
India came out to bat in the second innings with a target of 70 runs to chase and lost early wickets in the form of Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara scoring 5 and 3 respectively. But, once again, Shubhman Gill and captain Ajinkya Rahane taking the charge as they chased down the target with absolute class and comfort. Shubman played some classy shots as he remained not out at 35 of 36 balls while Rahane remained not out on 27 runs and was even dropped on 19 runs by Mitchell Starc.
With this win, India bounces back in the series as they level it 1-1 and infact, proves the predictions of Michael Vaughan and Shane Warne to be absolutely invalid as Vaughan had previously quoted, “India will lose the series 4-0” while the spin king had said, “India will be crushed by Australia at the MCG.” The third test will be played from 7th January to 11th January at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
