England leads the WTC points table after winning the 1st test in Chennai

England defeated India by 227 runs on Day 5 of the first Test match in Chennai, to take a 1-0 lead in the four-match series.

In reply to England’s target of 420 runs, India could only able to score192 in 58.1 overs in their second innings. Virat Kohli was the top scorer for India with a knock of 72 runs off 104 balls.

With the departure of opener Rohit Sharma on Day 4, India had a poor start on the final day. Cheteshwar Pujara lost his wicket in the early stages, after scoring only 15 runs.

Opener Shubman Gill built a short partnership with captain Kohli, but was dismissed after reaching his half-century. The rest of India’s batsmen including the likes of Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar couldn’t stay more in front of England’s bowling department, who were on top form.
