Lyon go past the Champions of Italy on away goals and booked a meeting with the Sky Blues of England Manchester City in the Quarterfinals of the Elite European Championship.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s brace in vain as Maurizio Sarri’s men are dumped OUT of the Champions League with Lyon’s No. 11 securing the deal for the Les Gones through an early 1st half penalty.
The Portuguese Skipper converted one from the spot before the half time and scored a fabulous long range screamer at around the hour mark but that wasn’t enough to avoid elimination yet again for the Old lady.
Having lost the Away leg 1-0 in March before the Coronavirus Pandemic, Bianconeri were still optimistic on getting the job done and securing a 4th consecutive Quarterfinal appearance in the Champions League but Memphis Depay’s early spot kick gave Ronaldo and Co. gave another mountain to climb.
But, unfortunately things did not fall at place despite numerous attempts from Juve. Fan favourite and Serie A’s Most Valuable player for the 2019-20 season Paulo Dybala came in from the bench in the 2nd half as the last hope for the Italians but had to be substituted after 14 minutes of play due to a thigh injury and that came in as the added toppings for Lyon that saw them go past Juventus to the Quarterfinals of the Champions League.
Lyon will now face a High flying Manchester City in the Round of 8 at Lisbon, Portugal but this will need a demanding performance from the French side as Pep Guardiola and his men are confident on bringing the first European Title to the Etihad.
