The champions of France Paris Saint Germain thrashed Ligue 2 club La Havre in an exhibition match on Sunday.
Around 5000 fans saw PSG in action after almost 4 months since football was suspended in France. The Sports ministry of France described the occasion as “A victory for french football”
Paris Saint Germain were declared the champions of France before the season ended on the basis of points-per-game. This was the first time an elite European match was open to spectators since early March as football was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.
PSG’s attack became a nightmare for Le Havre’s defense as Neymar, Mauro Icardi and Pablo Sarabia found the back of the net twice and Kylian Mbappe, Arnaud Kalimuendo and Idrissa Gueye getting one each to thier name.
The government of France took a structural and prominent step to ensure the return of football with supporters backing their favourite clubs. Among all the powerhouses of European football, only France could manage to organise a football match that was open to spectators.
Roxana Maracineanu, Minister of Sports in France took on to Twitter and wrote “What a pleasure to see football back with supporters at Le Havre. 5,000 people max for the moment but it’s a progressive return to normal life for players and supporters.”
