The newly formed merged entity, ATK Mohun Bagan FC will be making their debut in the Hero Indian Super League this season. The Kolkata based ISL side and defending champions, ATK FC has merged with one of the most historic and the oldest football club of India, Mohun Bagan AC.
The squad for the debut season has been finalised and will be coached by ATK FC’s Spanish boss, Antonio Lopez Habas. The squad is inclusive of both Mohun Bagan AC and ATK players along with their captain and Fijian international, Roy Krishna. The 33-year old Fijian linchpin has been fantastic last season along with New Zealand international, David Williams by his side. The two form a great duo and their on-field understanding and coordination can prove lethal for their opponents.
This season, the youth talent and Mohun Bagan sensation, Subha Ghosh might be seen in the attacking prowess beside the two overseas forwards. The midfield general, Edu Garcia will be given the responsibility for some creative playmaking along with some quick counters. In order to add power to midfield, SK Sahil and Pronay, Javier Hernandez will be looking after the ball-winning and maintaining the possession alongside the ball-distribution in the wings.
In defence for ATK Mohun Bagan, it will be a close look as the squad is full of top-notch defenders including players like Sandesh Jhingan, Pritam Kotal, John Johnson, Prabir Das, Sumit Rathi and Subhasish Bose. The coach and the club’s gameplan management might be following a rotational format since, none of these players can be left to be on the bench for the whole season.
ATK Mohun Bagan’s Arindam Bhattacharya will be seen taking the charge under the crossbar and is expected to pull out some great and vital saves for his team. On summing up, it seems that, the debutant team is all prepared to clinch their first ever title and with the Mohun Bagan‘s arch-rivals, SC East Bengal in the tournament as well, the players of ATK Mohun Bagan FC are expected to show great level of concentration and gamesmanship all throughout.
