Germany were absolutely humiliated by a rampant Spain side who smashed 6 goals against the Die Mannschaft.
Spaniards dealt a blow in the 1st few minutes as Sergio Canales had to be subbed off after suffering an injury. On came Napoli’s Fabian Ruiz. The first goal came in the 17th minute when Alvaro Morata headed in Fabian’s corner from the far post and looked to have scored another in the 25th minute when he tapped in Ferran Torres’ cross but it was disallowed due to offside.
Ferran Torres had two good opportunities around the 30 minute mark but he couldn’t convert any of them. He did get his goal in the 33rd minute when Fabian’s header hit the crossbar and he smashed the rebound home. After 5 minutes due to some poor marking from Germany Rodri superbly headed in Koke’s corner to make it 3-0. In the 43rd minute captain Ramos was forced off due to an injury and on came Manchester City defender Eric Garcia.
Spain started the 2nd half just as they had started the 1st one and almost scored but Manuel Neuer brilliantly denied Leipzig forward Dani Olmo. In the 55th minute Spain scored on the break when Fabian Ruiz put Jose Gaya through and he unselfishly squared it to Torres who drilled it past a helpless Neuer. 2 minutes later it could easily have been 5 but Rodri put his effort over the crossbar. In the 71st minute Spain did make it five as Ferran Torres completed his hat-trick with a stunning curling strike.
Germany could have gotten a consolation but it wasn’t there day as Serge Gnabry hit the crossbar with a rocket in the 79th minute. In the 89th minute Spain rounded off there performance with a 6th goal as substitute Mikel Oyarzabal tapped into an empty net from a pass by Jose Gaya.
With this win La Roja are through to the Nations League finals. This match also exposed Germany’s glaring deficiencies and it will be upto Joachim Low to fix these errors ahead of the world cup qualifiers.
