Madrid Derby ends in a draw, leaving Barcelona a way in for this year’s La Liga title.
An early goal from Luis Suarez did not help Atletico Madrid keep their form at the top of La Liga, as Benzema and Casemiro found a late equaliser in the 88th minute of the game. Diego Simeone’s men just cannot seem to find a way into good luck, as they stumble again in the race for the league title.
Zidane’s team did not prove to be enough in the first half in the Madrid Derby, as a result of which Luis Suarez netted the opener. They did not seem to press at all, and neither were chances created. The first half was all red, blue and white.
Courtois did do good to repel Carrasco later in the second half while the rebound was shot over by Marcus Llorente. Atleti’s big chance came with Trippier who did some good work, only for the support to be messed up by Angel Correa.
Real did create a stupendous chance later in the 80th minute of the game, but Jan Oblak, Atletico’s WALL made an incredible double save to thwart the efforts of Benzema away.
The late goal came from Benzema, however. He is Madrid’s top goal-scorer now with 13 goals. A sublime one-two with Casemiro in the penalty box finally led to a easy tap-in by Benzema, who finally brought Real back into the game. Real Madrid did ask all of the question in the last minute of the game, but unfortunately, none were answered.
This Madrid Derby result only means the world for Barcelona, as R. Koeman was found quoting that what would be best for Barcelona would be for both the Madrid teams to lose points. The Blaugranas still are in the race for the title, but they, OBVIOUSLY, have to be realistic. Their draw with Bilbao for the Copa won’t be easy either. But whatever happens, the La Liga will be a treat to watch for the fans of Spanish football.
