Federico Gallego : North East United FC retain the Uruguayan linchpin

Northeast United FC had a forgetful last season. An injury hit team finished 9th above Hyderabad FC in the points table. The Highlanders have retained the services Uruguayan dynamo Federico Gallego for the 2020-21 season.


The Northeast United FC skipper missed the 1st half of the 6th edition as he suffered a major injury against former ISL Champions Bengaluru FC in the 2nd leg of the Semi Final in the 2018-19 season.

Federico Gallego’s ability to set up matches in the final third, his unrelenting tenacity to win back the ball in the defensive half makes him a complete midfielder. Thus keeping hold of him represents a big step for NorthEast, Who will be undergoing a massive rebuild this season under New Head Coach Gerard Nus Casanova.

Northeast’s No. 10 was instrumental for guiding them to their maiden play-off spot in the 2018-19 season. Under the tutoring of Dutch Manager Eelco Schattorie. The Uruguayan midfielder has been everywhere from cleaning up in defence to initiating attacks. While he has also popped up with some crucial goals for the Guwahati based club.

Having never played professional football outside the leagues of Uruguay prior to his ISL move. Gallego has proved himself to be and inspiring purchase. The 28-year-old will add further Latin American flavour to NorthEast United’s midfield due to his non-stop hustle on the pitch.
