Federico Gallego comes out on top as the Hero of the month for January

Northeast United’s talisman Federico Gallego has been named as the Hero of the month for January. Fans from all over the globe and Hero ISL experts casted their votes from 1st February (12 noon) to 4th February (12 noon) for the Uruguayan magician.

As per the Hero ISL voting criteria, votes count towards 50% of the vote share and experts’ votes account for the remaining 50%. Federico Gallego emerged as the winner amongst five players namely Jorge Ortiz Mendoza from FC Goa, Bartholomew Ogbeche and Rowllin Borges from Mumbai City FC and Diego Maurício from Odisha FC.

Out of 10,348 votes that the fans casted, the Highlander received 4,844 of them and he also got 9 out of total 10 experts votes. Rowllin Borges received the remaining one from an expert. Gallego’s former teammate Bartholomew Ogbeche was the second best as he received a total of 2,419 votes from the fans. Jorge Ortiz, Diego Maurício and Rowllin Borges bagged 1,734, 756 and 595 fan votes respectively.

The 30 year old’s combined tally of votes stood at 68.41%. Federico Gallego has brought a different energy into his team and his form has been really crucial for the Highlanders. In January, he scored two goals and assisted four for Northeast United and created 27 goal scoring chances, the most by any player.

The playmaker scored against Hyderabad in a 4-2 defeat and assisted Luis Machado for the opening goal in the following match against Bengaluru. Gallego’s magic brought an end to the Highlanders’ winless run against Jamshedpur as he was involved in assisting Ashutosh Mehta and Deshorn Brown. Against ATK Mohun Bagan, Gallego assisted Luis Machado for the opener and scored the winner himself from outside the box in the closing stages of the game. Gallego also created 4 chances in Northeast United’s last outing of January in what a 2-1 victory.
