Odisha FC mark their 1st Foundation day today and what can be a better gift to their fans than a new signing? With a new coach on board Odisha FC have already began their preparations for the upcoming season.
The Odisha based Football Club has landed their Brazilian target man Diego Maurício Machado de Brito for the upcoming season of Indian Super League.
He is a player with good physical presence and skill, many fans compare Diego Maurício to Didier Drogba, calling him Drogbinha, which means the Little Drogba.
Diego Maurício came up from the ranks of Brazilian Outfit Flamengo and has represented their senior side for 3 years and then moved to Russian outfit Alania Vladikavkaz but came back to Brazil for a Loan spell with 2nd Division club Sport Recife. The following year he signed for Portuguese Top tier club Vitória Setúbal.
Then he was bought by Brazilian Club Bragantino and was loaned out to Saudi Professional League Club Al-Qadisiyah FC for the 2015-16 season. His second loan spell saw him donning the colours of SJZ Ever Bright in the Chinese Super League and his final and third loan spell was with K League 1 club Gangwon FC for 2 seasons, netting 20 goals in 72 appearances.
The 29 year old recently featured for Busan IPark and CSA in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 season respectively.
Welcoming Diego Maurício at OFC, Head Coach Mr. Stuart Baxter said, “We are delighted to secure the services of Diego. He is a player who can both combine with his teammates and also create chances on his own. When he gets to know the squad he will be a major asset for us.”
After signing for Odisha FC, the striker expressed, “I am very excited to have joined Odisha FC and I look forward to work with Coach Stuart Baxter. I have heard and read a lot of interesting things about the young Indian players at Odisha FC, the Juggernauts and India as a country. This project excites me a lot and I am coming with the aim to win the league.”
The 2020-21 season is all set to be played behind closed doors in Goa and The Juggernauts can hope for an extra ordinary season with Stuart Baxter and Co. at helm.
