Patrick Bamford: Why did the Leeds star couldn’t make a cut to the National Squad for Euro 2021?

Patrick Bamford was one of the biggest names to miss out on the 33-man provisional English squad for their Euro 2021 campaign earlier this week.

The Leeds United star ended the Premier League campaign with 17 goals. He also provided seven assists for Marcelo Bielsa’s side. Nevertheless, Southgate decided to opt for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ollie Watkins as cover for Harry Kane.

Harry Kane was actually the only Englishman to score more goals than Bamford this term. Meanwhile, neither Watkins or Calvert-Lewin contributed as many assists as the Leeds star. It is hard not to think that that did not inspire the forward to the level he ultimately reached. So Leeds supporters will be hoping that Southgate’s decision can motivate Bamford next year.

If he can replicate his tallies next season, Southgate will surely have little choice but to finally hand him his chance. Leeds fans will hope England snub inspires Bamford next season
Bamford exceeded all expectations with his performances this season.

He was having to deal with doubters even before a ball had been kicked, with many questioning whether he would be good enough for the highest level.

But with Bamford the only one of the quartet yet to receive an England cap, many Leeds fans may well have feared that the 27 year-old was always in danger of missing out and Fowler has now suggested that he believes that only two natural strikers will go to the tournament – hence why Bamford did not make the cut.
