No East Bengal in the 2020-21 Hero ISL season

East Bengal’s dream to play in the Indian Super League has been put on hold by the League organisers.

The organisers of the Indian top flight FSDL i.e Football Sports Development Limited have ruled out the possibility to increase the number of total teams in the league and this comes as a bad news for the historic Kolkata based franchise East Bengal.

The Red and Gold Brigade are keen to join the arch rivals Mohun bagan who have merged with the defending champions of the ISL ATK and have formed a new entity ATK Mohun Bagan. But, seems like things are not falling at place for the historic club as the stake holders are not ready to include a new team during this coronavirus pandemic.

East Bengal parted ways with their formal principal sponsor Quess Corp, and are watching out for new sponsors. The Mamta Banerjee driven Government is also keen for the Red and Gold’s to play in the Indian top division and the state government is helping the officials of the club to get in new sponsors in order to make way to the Indian Top flight.

The Venue of the ISL is all set to be announced by the 7th of August. Goa and Kerala are amongst the top destinations to host the mega event for the upcoming season. According to sources Goa will likely be the Destination.

The organisers will conduct a digital workshop in October for the club officials to tell them about all the necessary rules and regulations that will be implemented in the present scenario.

This is the Centenary year for the club and it’s been 17 years since they have won the ASEAN Cup and the only Indian club to win an International Trophy.
