Virat Kohli gets the MoTS as India clinch the Paytm T20I trophy in the series decider

India claims the Paytm T20I trophy as they won the 5-match series by 3-2 against England. After the series cambecame 2-2 in the 4th match, the 5th and the last match turned out to be a series decider which ended in an utter showdown that witnessed a terrific sense of gameplay between the two top-notch teams.

England won the toss and asked India to bat first at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The favourite duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli came out in the park to open the innings for the men in blue. Rohit Sharma played an astonishing innings as he scored 64 runs of just 34 deliveries that included fours 4’s and five 6’s. The Hitman also turned out to be England’s first breakthrough as he was bowled out by English All-Rounder Ben Stokes.

Captain Kohli once again showed off his class and this time as an opener, as he remained not out throughout the Indian innings with adding 80 runs to the Indian scoresheet of just 52 balls. His brilliant innings included seven 4’s and two 6’s.

On the other end, after Rohit’s departure, the crease was taken by Suryakumar Yadav who had already showed his worth in his debut match. In the decider too, he played a wonderful innings of 32 runs from just 17 balls but was sent back to the pavillion by England’s fielding extraordinaire, Chris Jordan. In the death overs of the Indian innings, Virat Kohli was supported by Hardik pandya who made a cameo by scoring 39 runs of just 17 balls.

India was able to put up a massive total of 224/2 on the scoreboard and England had to chase the total in order to clinch the trophy. England came out to bat for chasing the massive total but the opening pair didn’t last long as Jason Roy was sent back by Bhubaneshwar Kumar for a duck. After Jason Roy went back to the pavilion early, Jos Buttler was joined by Dawid Malan.

Both of them played two brilliant innings which ignited the hopes for the visitors from the land of Queen Victoria. But the important breakthrough for India came in the 13th over when once again, Bhubaneshwar Kumar picked up the second wicket and this time, in the form of Jos Buttler who scored 52 runs of 34 balls. Jonny Bairstow played a disappointing innings as he got out just for 7 of 7 balls. In the 15th over, Shardul Thakur bowled out Dawid Malan who scored 68 runs of 46 balls. With this wicket, England’s hopes for the trophy eventually faded away.

After that, the English innings failed to gain any momentum further as they ended their innings for 188/8 after the completion of 20 overs. As a result, India won the match by 36 runs and also, clinched the series with Bhuvi Kumar being awarded the Man of the Match award while, captain Kohli was honoured with the Man of the Series accord.
