The American Top Flight Major League Soccer is an highly anticipated football league in the US and Canada.
The 2021 season will be the 26th season of (MLS) and will see the addition of Austin FC as an expansion club, which will take the league to 27 total teams. Columbus Crew SC are the defending champions of America, having defeated Seattle Sounders FC in MLS Cup 2020, while the Philadelphia Union are the defending Supporters’ Shield winners.
The Major League Soccer kicks off its seasons anytime from the end of February to the beginning on March, but things have changed due to the coronavirus pandemic and the league finds itself in a financial crisis.
In December of 2020, Garber addressed the media and gave the world an update on the 26th season of the American Top Division. Garber also explained that it remains intent on starting the 2021 Major League Soccer season in mid-March.
“All of you know that we have an unbelievably crowded calendar this year,” Garber said of the importance of the mid-March start date. “We have World Cup qualifiers, we have the Gold Cup, we have the Concacaf Champions League, the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup that was delayed a year, we have the Canadian Championship. We have a schedule that is as crowded and as busy as any, perhaps in the history of the league.”
“And as we learned from last year, and as we’re seeing play out with the other North American leagues and even now with the EPL and other European leagues, our schedule must provide us with the opportunity to make up any matches in the event that we have postponed games due to positive COVID tests.”
This season of Major League Soccer will not be open to spectators and will be a closer door affair. Fans might be allowed mid-way through the season keeping in mind the then current state of the pandemic.
But, the news is that the MLS will return to action for the 26th consecutive year.
