Ashutosh Mehta : NorthEast United signs another Defensive Stalwart

Northeast United FC have signed Former Mohun Bagan Right Back Ashutosh Mehta ahead of the 7th edition of the Indian Super League.

Ashutosh Mehta joins the Highlanders after winning the I-League with the Mariners in what was a dream run for the club. A Merged entity being formed between ATK and Mohun Bagan resulted in Mehta signing for the Guwahati based club.

The 28 year started his career with his hometown club Mumbai FC in the I-League and has made a total of 82 appearances having 6 goals to his name. He was then loaned out to a former ISL side FC Pune City for the inaugural edition of the Indian Top flight.

The following season he joined the Islanders Mumbai City FC and made 16 appearances across 2 seasons for Ranbir Kapoor’s side. During his time with the Islanders, he was loaned out to Mumbai FC in 2015 and Aizawl FC in 2016 in what turned out to be a dream campaign for the Mizo side when they stood out brilliantly against all odds and emerged as the Champions.

The Mumbai born full back then plied his trade to the eastern coast of the country as signed for the 3 times ISL champions ATK and turned up 14 times for the side in the ISL. Ashutosh Mehta returned to FC Pune City for a second spell for the 2018-19 season in what was the club’s last season in the Indian Top Division.

In 2019, Mohun Bagan signed the right back and he made a total of 21 appearances for the Kolkata Giants and won the prestigious I-League.

The 6 feet tall defender joins the Highlanders to reinforce their Arsenal and Khalid Jamil had a major role to play in getting the services of the 2 time I-League Champion for the Highlanders.
