Chennai Super Kings have opened their account in the points table of the VIVO IPL 2021, by registering an easy 6-wicket victory against Punjab Kings as a result of some top class bowling from Deepak Chahar.
Bowling first, Deepak Chahar took full advantage of the conditions and moisture available on the Wankhede surface as he swung the ball in both ways ,thus made life very difficult for the star studded Punjab Kings batters. A bowling masterclass led by Deepak Chahar dismantled the Kings top order, and there was no magic recovery this time. Chahar took out four of the Kings’ top five, while the other man – KL Rahul – was run out.
It seemed like Punjab Kings lost the match when they were 26-5 especially when they expect their top order to make bulk of the runs . Punjab Kings batsmen had no answer to the moving deliveries from Chahar and the disciplined line and length bowled by CSK. However, Shahrukh Khan was the lone worrier for PBKS under pressure as he played a fighting knock of 47(36) but it was only enough to make his team reach at a score of 107 as ran out of partners . Deepak Chahar finished with extraordinary figures of 4/13 against a top batting side .
In reply, Chennai Super Kings chased the mere runs inside 16 overs with 6 wickets in hand and registered their first win of the season . Moeen Ali made an attacking 46(31) and was well supported by Faf du Plessis who remained not out on 36 and guided his team over the line after a couple of quick wickets which proved to be a little too late for PBKS for making a comeback.
Deepak Chahar was adjudged as the man of the match for his game changing spell which broke the back of Punjab’s batting line up . Punjab Kings will have to find a solution to strengthen their lower middle order moving forward or else on occasions such as todays, they will find themselves in deep trouble especially when their top order fails to deliver.
