This year SC East Bengal will be playing their first Indian Super League season as they are the new entrant of the league. On the contrary ATK FC and Mohun Bagan merged together to form a new entity altogether as ATK Mohun Bagan FC.
Recently AFC or the Asian Football Confederation hosted a poll where five of India’s top football clubs featured competing against each other. The five clubs were
- ATK Mohun Bagan
- Bengaluru FC
- East Bengal
- FC Goa
- Kerala Blasters
The Poll had shocking results because nobody would have expected a historic club like Mohun Bagan to finish third in comparison to Kerala Blasters and East Bengal.
Archrival of ATK Mohun Bagan is none other than East Bengal, their city counterpart who also boast a history of over 100 years. It was expected that fans of both these iconic team from India would battle it out neck-to-neck like their clubs do on the pitch. But it didn’t happen at all as ATK Mohun Bagan fans turned out to be third highest with a vote percentage of just 21 percent.
Kerala Blasters fans once again showed immense support for the club as their vote share was second best. They had a whopping 30 percentage of vote share to boast about when competing against legendary clubs like East Bengal and Mohun Bagan.
The New Entrant of Indian Super League won the poll which is none other than East Bengal. The fans of the legendary club of India made sure there was no dearth of votes. The vote share they had was almost half of what was up for stakes but they fell short by just a percentage as they had 49 percent vote in the poll. But their fans will be happy because they beat their archrival by a fair amount of margin even before their first derby clash in the Indian Super League.
The fans of ATK and Mohun Bagan will come together this season onwards and cheer for the same team as they have merged together to play in the Indian Super League and it will be their first Kolkata Derby as ATK Mohun Bagan versus East Bengal in the Indian Super League.
