After 3 straight wins in their first three games of the new season, Antonio Lopez’s ATK Mohun Bagan lose to the hands of Owen Coyle’s Jamshedpur FC after a brace from Nerijus Valskis.
The stage was all set for another interesting game in the Hero ISL, as unbeaten ATK Mohun Bagan took on struggling Jamshedpur FC who were yet to register their first win. The battle was going to be more intresting as Owen Coyle was going against the team who defeated his Chennaiyin FC in last season’s final.
As the game started, Jamshedpur and ATK Mohun Bagan both were very active in making moves and weren’t hesitant in taking risks and the game was therefore very interesting for the spectators. Even tough both teams were playing really well, Jamshedpur were more dominant than their opponents.
In the 29th minute, Peter Hartley hit the ball towards the goal from Monroy’s corner, which was cleared off the line by Pritam Kotal for another corner. On the subsequent corner, ATK Mohun Bagan didn’t have the same luck, as this time Valsiks made no mistake whatsoever in capitalising and scored a powerful header to give Jamshedpur a well deserved lead.
Jamshedpur were fine in the attacking chores all throughout the game, their midfielders and wingers constantly found gaps and made space for themselves and created chances. After that in the second half, another Monroy corner met Mobashir Rahman, who gently flicked the ball and Valskis made no mistake in giving his team a two goal cushion.
ATK Mohun Bagan finally woke up in the final stages of the game, when Roy Krishna scored for the Mariners and gave them some hope in the 80th minute, but the goal didn’t prove to be anything else but a consolation goal. Even though they made some great chances in the dying stages of the game with the likes of Manvir Singh who made some great chances but unfortunately wasn’t able to score and thus the match ended 2-1 and Jamshedpur won all 3 points and also forced ATK Mohun Bagan to drop points for the first time this season.
