Barcelona called “weak” by Lionel Messi

Barcelona’s title hopes came to an end as 10 men Osasuna scored an injury time winner and grabbed all 3 points away from home.

The Argentine forward couldn’t hold back after Barcelona‘s 2-1 defeat against Osasuna at the Camp Nou. The Barcelona captain unleashed his anger in a rare post match presentation and termed the Barça team “weak” and said “We didn’t expect to finish in this way, but it sums up the year for us,” Messi told Spanish TV.

“We are a weak team who can be beaten with enough intensity and enthusiasm. We have lost a lot of points which we shouldn’t have done and been very inconsistent. We need to be self-critical, starting with the players but also across the entire club. We are Barcelona, and we are obliged to win every game.”

The Six time Balon d’or winner also expressed his uncertainty of winning the 2nd leg of Round of 16 against Napoli which will be a closed door affair at the Camp Nou. He said “huge changes” should be made to make the difference.

This is the first time in 3 years when Real Madrid took away the championship from the La Liga Giants. Before football was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic Barcelona had a 2 point advantage over Real Madrid. But, after the season resumed the Los Blancos had the perfect hunger to grab the championship.

After losing out to Real Madrid for the top flight championship the forward said, “Madrid did its part by winning all its matches, which is impressive, but we also helped them to win this league.”

Messi will be out of contract in 2021 and reports suggest that he is not considering a contract renewal with the Catalans. A lot of issues on and off the pitch have upset him. Manchester City are closely monitoring the Argentine forward’s situation.
