The southern Derby and one of the fiercest matches in the ISL, between the southern rivals Kerala blasters and Chennaiyin fc, end in a 0-0 draw after an action packed game of football that had everything in it except goals.
The start to the second match week of the 7th edition of the Hero Indian Super League saw two gigantic clubs with a history lock horns. The two clubs have had several meetings in the past few years, and each and every time the clash between these to respective teams delivers a lot. Last season, the two times these two teams played against each other, it was a complete adrenaline-charged contest, with the two matches ending 3-6 and 3-1, both in the favour of Chennaiyin FC.
This time around the match lacked the tempo and the intent that the fans ought to see. This is somewhat proven by the score line as well, because a 0-0 final score, clearly shows the attacking deficiency in both teams.
Both teams had only one shot on target, Kerala Blasters and their shot on target from open Play where as Chennaiyin FC one and only short on target came from the spot which was handsomely saved by Albino, to deny Sylvester his first goal here in India. Kerala Blasters keeper Albino Gomes performed really well in tonight’s game as he not only saved a penalty, but cap the defence intact, communicated really well with the defenders and deservedly I want the hero of the match award.the defensive performance of both the teams were also very great.
The Chennaiyin FC defence led by Eli Sabia and Enes Sipovic, and the Kerala Blasters defence led by Costa and Kone, seemed very disciplined and attentive and were is rock solid, for pretty much throughout the game. It was obviously not a great night for the attack, as they were not able to create too many chances for them, any other where they able to capitalise on the few chances that they created. Chennaiyin FC’s Crivellaro once again had a great game as he was creating chances, making runs and exploiting the defence and also won the penalty for his team.
After this game, Chennaiyin FC drop points for the first time this season, but climb up to the third spot below ATK Mohun Bagan and Northeast United FC with four points. Kerala blasters have now played 3 games, and haven’t managed to win in a single one of them. With One loss, and two draws, Kerala blasters do not seem to be in a very good situation, and are seventh on the points table.
