The City Football Group owned Franchise Mumbai City FC continue their search for a new No. 9
This time around It’s the 21 year old Uruguayan Forward Martin Chaves. Martin has become a well known name in the Indian Super League as he recorded the most goal contributions for Northeast United FC. The Highlanders had an unsatisfactory 2019-20 season as they failed to make it to the top 4 and finshed 9th despite Big names making their way to the Guwahati based franchise.
Martin Chaves made his debut in Professional Football with the Highlanders against the former Champions Bengaluru FC at the Kanteerava Stadium. Chaves was the the first player to test the defending Golden Glove winner and Indian International Gurpreet Singh Sandhu.
Chaves found the back of the net thrice and provided 3 Assists for the team from Guwahati. He scored his first professional goal when he broke the deadlock against the newcomer Odisha FC in a 2-1 away loss at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.
The young gun is a versatile forward as his ability to play as a striker and also just behind the striker in a free role is something which will allow Sergio Lobera to play with the brand of football he is known for.
Chaves provided a first -class assist against Sergio Lobera’s side and that could be enough for the Spaniard to approve the name of the Uruguayan wonderkid to the Islanders.
Mumbai City FC from the City of dreams could be in for a real treat if this deal goes through as Martin Chaves is a tried and tested name in the Indian Football circuit.
