Bayern complete their quadruple by winning the Super Cup after an intense and nail biting match against the Europa league winners Sevilla.
Bayern were coming into this game as the European Champions and as an irresistible force led by Hansi Flick, who most recently defeated Schalke 8-0 in their first match of the new season. Before the game, it seemed as if the Bavarians would easily win the Super Cup and emerge victorious against the Europa league winners Sevilla, because of their unthinkable performance in the last few matches. But, during the game, something incredible happened, as Sevilla made Bayern struggle to win and gave them equal competition throughout the game.
The first goal of the game, came through the spot, after Alaba barged into De Jong and Steven Taylor pointed towards the spot and Ocampos used this opportunity to the fullest, and gave Sevilla an unexpected lead in the Super Cup.
After that, Bayern started to press hard and eventually scored the Equalizer just a few minutes later in the 34th minute of the game after an impressive assist from Lewandowski resulted in a clean strike from Goretzka, to bring the match on level terms.
After the first two goals coming inside the first 35 minutes of the game, the rest of the 65 minutes were goal-less, even tough both teams had a few great chances, especially in the last 15 minutes, they failed to capitalise, due to the lack of finishing capability and also some good goalkeeping.
Since both the teams weren’t able to be seperated after 90 minutes of football, thus the match entered the extra time. In which, in the 104th minute Javi Martinez headed the ball home after some sloppy ball handling by the Sevilla goalkeeper, to give The Bavarians the lead and also the win over Sevilla and win the 4th title for Bayern in the form of Super Cup.
Though Bayern emerged as the winners over the Los Palanganas. Lopetegui’s team, showed everyone that Bayern were not an invincible team and also found a new plan to defend against Bayern’s horrific pressing. This was through pressing on the Bayern defence and the keeper, to prevent them from playing high.
This also helped Sevilla to find space for easy passing and prevented them from losing the ball. Sevilla also manage to stop Bayern, from playing from there preferable left flank off the field with the likes of Leroy Sane and Hernandez. And rather tried to keep the ball towards the right to prevent Bayern from counter attacking.
All in all, Sevilla gave a tough competition to the Bavarians and kept them on their toes and kept them working throughout the 120 minutes. After Sevilla’s performance, Hansi Flick’s side seem to be on the course of getting exposed tactically and now Hansi Flick has to urgently address the situation and evolve his tactics as now every team would try to play against them the way Sevilla played.
Hansi Flick would now have to use his mind to the fullest, in order to evolve his tactics of constant pressing, so that they become stronger and better than they were the last season or at least remain as they were.
