Odisha FC signs Marcelinho to add more samba magic in the squad

Ever since the Inception of the Indian top flight in 2014, the Indian Super League has been a spectator of some extravaganza Samba Magic by the Brazilians.

Odisha FC have acquired the services of pocket dynamo Marcelo Leite Pereira, famously known as Marcelinho for the 2020-21 season. The Brazilian is a Fan Favourite in the India due to his heroics up front. It is an homecoming for the Brazilian star as he reunites with his former Club with a New name.

Having started his professional career with Spanish giants Atlético Madrid’s reserve team, He also played for Greek clubs Kalamata, Xanthi FC and Atromitos, Baniyas Club in the UAE, Catania in Italy, and Brazilian side Anapolis, before landing at the National Capital of India to represent the Delhi Dynamos FC (Now Odisha FC)

Marcelinho

The 33-year-old’s major succes came in with the Delhi based Franchide as he finished his debut Indian Super League season as the league’s top scorer and won the Golden Boot by netting 10 goals. Then he went on to play for FC Pune City in the Indian Super League for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 season.

In the 2019-20 season FC Pune City shifted their base to the City of Nizams, Hyderabad and Marcelinho led the Hero ISL debutants but injuries spoiled everything and they finished at the bottom of the table.

Due to some unavoidable issues with the Club, Marcelinho did not renew his contract and was linked with a move to Kerala Blasters FC and Northeast United FC. Both the teams were keen to land the Brazilian but things did not work out and he signed for Odisha FC.

Marcelinho is a versatile forward and can play on both the flanks and even as a second striker. His stats show why he’s one of the most influential players in the league and this surely comes in as a blessing for the Juggernauts.

Odisha FC have already secured the services of Brazilian Striker Diego Maurício Machado de Brito and Marcelinho becomes their second overseas recruit.
