Punjab Kings bid big on Jhye Richardson as they sign the speedster

From a base price of Rs 1.5 crore, Australian pacer Jhye Richardson was one of the most expensive picks in the vivo IPL 2021 auction as he was secured by Punjab Kings for Rs 14 crore .

Punjab Kings , Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore went after the lanky pacer in the bidding battle . With a blink of an eye , the bidding crossed the 5 crore mark . All the three teams were reluctant to back out and completely went after the Aussie pacer . After crossing the Rs 6 crore mark , Punjab Kings backed out of the bidding.

It was a tough competition going on between Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Delhi Capitals. But surprisingly soon after the bid went up to Rs 8 crore , Punjab Kings rejoined the bidding war as the Delhi Capitals pulled themselves out of the bidding . Just in a matter of time, the bidding price increased up to Rs 10. 25 crores with Royal Challengers Bangalore on the lead . It was an intense battle between RCB and Punjab Kings with both teams keen on grabbing the opportunity of having an excellent overseas quick .

RCB had some deep discussions when the bidding crossed the 12 crore mark as Punjab had the lead . But RCB came back as they raised the bat that took the bidding to Rs 13.75 crore. Punjab kings then went in to the 14 crore bid and Jhye Richardson was finally sold to the Punjab Kings for a whopping Rs 14 crore making him the 4th most expensive player in this years IPL auction with Glenn Maxwell, Kyle Jamieson and Chris Morris ahead of him .

Australia pacer Jhye Richardson

This proved to be a great signing for Punjab Kings as Richardson has the ability of picking wickets with the new ball which will reduce the pressure from Mohammed Shami. Jhye Richardson will be coming into the 14th edition of the IPL with full confidence by being the leading wicket taker of the recently concluded Big bash league where he scalped 29 wickets . He still be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Mohammed Shami and Chris Jordan in the Punjab ranks which will indeed be a great learning experience for him .
