Rohit Sharma and Axar Patel attain their career best test rankings


The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the latest test rankings on Monday. Star Indian opener Rohit Sharma advanced 6 spots to reach his career best 8th position in the MRF tyres ICC Men’s Test batting rankings.

Veteran off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin jumped 4 spots to attain the 3rd spot in the MRF tyres ICC Men’s test bowling rankings . Rohit Sharma has been the leading run scorer for in India and is second behind England captain Joe Root . Rohit has scored a total of 296 runs from 3 test matches at an average of 59.20 with one to play.

His marathon 161 runs in the 1st innings of the second test match helped India to pose a big 1st innings total on the board which was very crucial on a turning track . Rohit Sharma also contributed in the third test match by top scoring with 66 runs in the 1st innings on a difficult pitch where other batsmen from both teams failed miserably . Adding to which , he contributed with an unbeaten 25 runs and carried India to a 10 wicket victory and gave India a 2-1 lead in the series. Rohit has 742 rating points which is 20 more that what he had back in 2019.

Due to their excellent bowling performances against England, Ravi Ashwin and Axar Patel were seem advancing in the bowlers rankings. Ashwin who recently entered the elite club of 400 wickets, is now among the top 3 bowlers in the world as he is currently placed in the 3rd rank just after Neil Wagner and Pat Cummins. Axar Patel who picked up 11 wickets in the Ahmedabad test , gained 30 spots to reach his career best 38th rank . Spin duo of Ravi Aswhin and Axar Patel are the leading wicket takers in the ongoing series against England with 24 wickets and 18 wickets respectively.

In the English side , left arm spinner Jack Leach , who is the leading wicket taker for England in the series, entered into the top 30 by moving 3 places to the 28th position . Zak Crawley , who was the only stand out batsman for the visitors in the 3rd test match , jumped 15 spots to reach at the 46th position.
