The M.S Dhoni led team retained a total of 18 players ahead of the auction which included stalwarts like Suresh Raina , Ambati Rayudu , Deepak Chahar, Faf du Plessis , DJ Bravo , KM Asif, , Imran Tahir, N Jagadeesan, Karn Sharma, Lungi Ngidi, Mitchell Santner, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shardul Thakur, Sam Curran, Josh Hazlewood and R Sai Kishore. CSK being the second most successful team in the history of the IPL after Mumbai Indians, finished in the 7th position of the points table last time around when the IPL was played in the United Arab Emirates. This was the first time CSK failed to qualify for the play offs which was a big set back for the three times champions.

The major reason was most of the players being out of match practice as the players didn’t play competitive cricket as majority of the players had retired from iinternational cricket. But before the commencement of IPL 2021, the most consistent franchise decided to part ways with some of their experienced players and bring in fresh and young players into their circuit . CSK brought in Robin Uthappa through the trading window from the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL auction 2021. Krishnappa Gowtham was the highest buy for the Super Kings as they signed the allrounder for Rs 9.25 crores making him the most expensive uncapped Indian Player .Another key signing was English all rounder Moeen Ali as they franchise invested Rs 7 crore on him. Moeen will be a key player for CSK as he can play both at the top of the innings and also can play the finishing role . With the inclusion of all rounders like Gowtham and Moeen , CSK will have s right balance which they lacked in the previous edition .

Chinna Thalla ,Suresh Raina as he’s commonly known as , will be back in the yellow jersey which will provide fire power to the CSK batting after he missed the previous edition due to personal reasons. With the largest fan base and with the right mix of all rounders , M.S Dhoni and his men will be looking to start on a positive note and will once again try to make the IPL a tournament where 8 teams battle to play CSK in thr final .
