Q. Tell us something about the recruitment process at Odisha FC and your role in it.
Abhijit : Recruitment is done throughout the year. There’s a different recruitment philosophy of all the clubs . We at Odisha are hugely investing in youth and getting good results as well. We target the young players who are doing exceptionally well in their respective teams and then we shortlist a few players who match our requirements are available in the market. Then, the senior members of the management go and negotiate with the players and some of them sign for us and if they don’t sign for us, we go back and shortlist other players and that is where I come into the picture.
Q. Do players approach you personally regarding their performances ?
Abhijit : Yes, certain players do approach me personally. But, it’s not a very common scenario because what the coaches want me to tell is mostly related to the next match and the previous match. I always feel that if the coaches tell the players about what they need to do is a better option because they are the best in doing that.
Q. Which type of players attract you the most? Defensive or Attacking?
Abhijit : Everyone loves Goals and I too personally prefer Attacking Football but Defensive Football is also an important part of the game. Both are 2 different sides of a coin. So, you cannot have one in your team and miss out on the other.
