The much awaited Hero Indian Super League had kicked-off yesterday with ISL debutant, ATK Mohun Bagan sealing a 1-0 victory against Kerala Blasters FC. Fijian star, Roy Krishna scored the only goal for the Green and Maroons. Today, the Islanders, Mumbai City FC will be facing a strong Northeast United FC.
Yesterday afternoon, at 12:30 pm, MCFC Head Coach, Sergio Lobera and Goalkeeper, Amrinder Singh had addressed the media in a virtual pre-match press conference that was hosted on the Zoom platform.
The Head Coach and their Indian Goalkeeper were in a really good mood and seemed to have a positive, calm and composed mindset. The conference had journalists from all across the country with some big names in the world of media like TOI, HT, Sportskeeda, Goal and Olympic channel joined the same.
In the first part of the conference, when I, on the behalf of SportsKindle, asked Amrinder, “We all are aware of the fact that goalkeeper is the most trivial position on a football pitch. So, for instance, if you find your opposition launching a counter attack, how are you going to prepare yourself mentally in those few seconds in order to prevent your opposition from finding the ball at the back of the net?”
The 27-year old Indian goalie answered, “The mindset needs to be developed and that depends on the way a coach make his players understand their roles. It’s not that like only the goalkeeper needs to prepare a mindset and that too only during a counter attack. When you’re a footballer, no matter a goalkeeper, a defender, a midfielder or an attacker, you should be prepared for any kind of situation that might occur during the whole 90-minutes of a football match. We have a lot of experienced people in this team. People who have been in the Hero ISL for a few years and some who have played at a very high level.”
I guess, this answer of Amrinder Singh must have made each one of us present there understand that how much of sportsmanship and game spirit this lion-heart goalkeeper of India possesses and probably, this is the reason of his success. Mumbai City FC vs Northeast United FC kicks-off at 7:30pm today. The match will be played behind closed doors at Tilak Maidan Stadium in Goa.
