Maratha Arabians got sweeped off by a sudden ‘Gayle Storm’ in Abu Dhabi

Date:

Windies star and the universal boss of cricket, Chris Gayle smashed nine sixes and six fours to score 78 runs from boundaries in his innings today with a humongous strike-rate of 381.82. The Universal Boss took 12 balls to reach fifty, equalling the rapid half-century he scored in the KFC Big Bash League back in 2016.

Chris Gayle plundered nine sixes as he scored 84 not out of just 22 balls to lead team Abu Dhabi to a crushing nine-wicket win over Maratha Arabians, in the on-going season of Abu Dhabi T10.

Maratha Arabians had put up a score of 97 runs on the scoreboard and while chasing a target of 98 runs, Team Abu Dhabi got home of just 5.3 overs as Gayle galloped to a fifty in just 12 balls, a feat he had previously achieved in 2016 while playing for Melbourne Renegades against Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League.

The fastest half-century in international T20 cricket also came off 12 balls from India’s Yuvraj Singh’s bat against England in ICC T20 World Cup back in 2007. Predictably, the 41years-old Chris Gayle finished the match with a six thus, showing off his evergreen class.

Ireland’s Paul Stirling (11 off five) and Englishman Joe Clarke (five not out) had the best seats in the house at the other end, while Ben Duckett and Sam Billings where the next two batsmen due to come in but eventually witnessed the ‘Gayle storm’ from the pavilion.

Amidst the carnage, seamer Sompal Kami conceded 27 runs off an over while Mosaddek Hossain had to gulp 22. In the context of the match, 16-year-old leg-spinner Maroof Merchant’s excelled in by just conceding 15 off his one over.

Only Nicholas Pooran has scored more runs from fours and sixes than his West Indian counterpart Gayle in an Abu Dhabi T10 innings. Pooran’s 89 off 24 balls for Northern Warriors against Bangla Tigers including 84 runs from boundaries is the highest till date, while Gayle managed to get 78.
