Gerard Nus appointed head coach of North East United FC

After six seasons of different coaching styles, North East United FC have finally decided to go for the most popular, Spanish flavour for the seventh edition of Indian Super League.

The Highlanders have roped in 35 years old Spanish coach Gerard Nus Casanova for the upcoming season. Reports suggest that club’s technical advisor Avram Grant had a major role to play in this move as both of them had worked together during Grant’s stint as Ghana national team manager.

Gerard Nus is one of the youngest coaches in Spain as he started his coaching career at the age of 14 when he worked at various training camps of RCD Espanyol as an assistant coach. At the young age of 23, Gerard was working with the first team of Liverpool FC. He then worked as an assistant manager for various top ranked teams across the globe incuding Chunnam Dragons (K-League), Melbourne Heart (A-League) and Ghana national team in the Africa Cup Of Nations.

Gerard got his first stint as head coach for a USA based club named Rayo Oklahoma City where he managed a 10 games unbeaten streak. He had also coached Irtysh Pavlodar in the Kazakhstan Premier League.

Apart from coaching Gerard has also been involved with various clubs as a technical director. He has also written a book named “Warm up in football: training sessions & matches”. Moreover, Gerard has also developed a coaching App called “Efficiency Match Sports” that is extremely useful for the football coaches.

North East United FC had a poor campaign last season under Robert Jarni as they finished their season at the 9th position. After such an uneventful season club owner John Abraham apologized and assured the fans to bring glory to the club.

Now with young Gerard Nus at the helm, the highlanders are looking to start a new chapter of their club history. Head of youth development and assistant manager, Khalid Jamil seems to be working diligently behind the scenes as the club has already signed several youngsters from I-League while many are still undergoing talks.

North East United FC has always been a team associated with the youth and now with the youngest coach in the history of Indian Super League as their head coach it’ll be interesting to see how they perform.
