Manchester United sweep past Chelsea for the 3rd position finish

Manchester United’s top four finish and their hopes for Champions League football was on hold until Matchweek 38 where they took upon Leicester City.

Both Chelsea and United needed one point to secure their top four finish but that would have seen Chelsea book the 3rd spot just like their new sponsor 3. Meanwhile Leicester needed a win on the final day to seal their berth for Champions League Football but even if they had drawn still they could have qualified only if Chelsea would lose their final game.

It was Manchester United who were awarded another penalty versus Leicester City and that proved out to be clinical at the moment. The penalty was the 14th penalty they were awarded this season which is a new Premier League record.

Chelsea on the other end at their home Stamford Bridge cruised to victory against Europa spot chasing Wolves by 2-0.

But there is a twist Spurs made their way into top 6 by the virtue of a draw match versus Palace which took them to level points with Wolves but goal difference gave them the upper hand which saw them steal the Europa Qualifiers spot and placing them ahead of Wolves.

Manchester United players celebrate

A rare feat happened in the Manchester United versus Leicester City match and that was a goal scored by none other than Jesse Lingard which sealed their fate for Champions League football. Not everyday you see Lingard score or every season in some rare case but he does there is no one stopping him.
